On the morning of March 11, 1943, Fw 190 fighters from IV./JG5 took to the skies to escort the formidable battleship Tirpitz, accompanied by a screen of escort destroyers and torpedo boats. This marked the beginning of her voyage north to Bogen Bay as part of Operation Rostock. The operation aimed to relocate Tirpitz away from increasingly frequent British bombing raids. Upon arrival, she would join a powerful German naval force assembling near Narvik.
