Sea Fury | Robert Taylor
On August 9, 1952, Hawker Sea Furies of 802 Naval Squadron, operating from HMS Ocean, engaged MiG-15s over Pyongyang during the Korean War. Led by Commander Peter "Hoagy" Carmichael, a flight of four Royal Navy Sea Furies encountered eight MiG-15s. In the ensuing intense dogfight, the Sea Furies managed to shoot down one MiG and inflict damage on at least two others. This encounter is believed to mark the first recorded victory of a piston engined aircraft over a jet fighter during the Korean War.
