Robert Taylor’s painting, Knights Move, vividly depicts the formidable battleship Tirpitz, commanded by Admiral Schniewind, accompanied by the battleships Admiral Scheer and Admiral Hipper, as they embark on Operation Rösselsprung. This strategic maneuver was aimed at intercepting North Atlantic convoy routes.
Overhead, Messerschmitt Me 109s of Jagdgeschwader 5 (JG 5), based in Petsamo, provide aerial cover, while escort vessels form an imposing naval flotilla. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Norway’s towering mountains, Taylor’s masterful composition captures the intensity and realism of this pivotal World War II operation.
