High Summer | Robert Taylor
On September 9, 1940, No. 92 Squadron was thrust into the heart of the Battle of Britain. Having already demonstrated exceptional bravery during the Dunkirk evacuation and subsequent convoy patrols, the squadron now faced the climactic phase of one of history’s most decisive air battles.
Flying Spitfires from Biggin Hill, they immediately engaged the overwhelming Luftwaffe bomber formations and their Me 109 escorts. With southern England under intense threat, 92 Squadron’s impact was swift and decisive—over the next four months, its young pilots claimed 127 enemy aircraft, cementing their place in aviation history.
